When I think about Intel, the first thing that comes to mind is world-class computing solutions and the brilliant people that make them possible. As a company, we have some of the best technical minds in the world working on making technology smaller, faster, more powerful, and more efficient.
Believe it or not however, not everyone that works at Intel is an engineer! Like any other company, Intel needs HR professionals to maximize their human capital, finance professionals to manage monetary flow, a legal team, and so on. There are a plethora of career opportunities at Intel that reside outside of an engineering focus.

Believe it or not however, not everyone that works at Intel is an engineer! Like any other company, Intel needs HR professionals to maximize their human capital, finance professionals to manage monetary flow, a legal team, and so on. There are a plethora of career opportunities at Intel that reside outside of an engineering focus.
So what’s it like to work as a non-technical person in an “engineering company”, and furthermore, why would someone from a non technical background want to work here as opposed to any other company or industry? From my perspective I can point to two main reasons: culture and impact.
I think we have a unique and attractive culture here at Intel that’s different from what you may experience in other industries and companies. First of all we’re global, and having the opportunity to connect with people from places like Ireland, China, and Costa Rica really allows you to expand your global perspective. Calling into the occasional after-hours meeting is well worth the opportunity to interact with say, our IT team in Israel, and learn about how they do business in their part of the world.
Secondly, Intel really values flexibility and work/life balance. Some people take advantage of our on-campus gyms for a midday workout, others relish the opportunity to wear jeans to work instead of a suit and tie. All things considered, Intel provides many avenues for adjusting your work life to fit the individual that is you.
The other area that I love about working at Intel is the potential impact we can make on the world. In a world where new tech products are finding their way into everything we interact with on a daily basis from cars to ATM machines, this is truly an exhilarating time to work in the technology sector. It’s exciting for me as a non-technical employee to be able to see how the work that I do on a daily basis can potentially impact our company’s ability to deliver the next wave of these high-tech solutions.
For example, my current rotation as a member of the HR Pathways Program has placed me as an HR business partner supporting our Technology Manufacturing Group (TMG). Intel is one of only a few companies that both designs and manufactures its own technology products. Our leading edge manufacturing processes in TMG allow us to bring our leading edge products to market sooner, with high degrees of speed and quality. As HR business partners, we consult with with our leaders in TMG to help solve current and emerging business issues through integrated HR solutions (e.g. performance management, organizational design, leadership development, etc.). Because TMG’s operational success is so critical to Intel’s ability to produce the latest and greatest tech products, it’s easy for me to see how the work I perform in human resources fits into Intel’s objective of delivering the best technology products in the world.
So while yes, Intel is for the most part a “tech-focused” company, it’s also a fantastic place for people from non-technical backgrounds to enjoy a meaningful and impactful career that will contribute to changing the world as we know it.
