WiMAX and Remote Controlled Cars
posted by Marc Wallis on January 05, 2008
I’m in Vegas now, and getting amp’d up to see everything. But before I got lost in everything else, my first stop was to check out what is supposed to be a really cool WiMAX demo Intel’s putting on that I’m dying to see.
Follow me while I try to explain..
In the main Intel booth in Central hall, there are two BMW F1 simulator cars that visitors will sit in to drive a small remote control race car around a track. Sounds simple, until you find out that the race track is actually across the street from the convention center at the BMW Sauber F1 Pit Lane Park. The control signal for these little cars will be carried over a WiMAX network. The drivers (in the central hall) will see where their little cars are going (in Pit Lane Park across the street) with video streamed back over the WiMAX network. How cool will that be!!
I stopped at Pit Lane Park to check out the race track – it’s still being built out:

In the main Intel booth, they were finishing up with the simulator cars:

I’ll let you know on Monday how it turns out.
