The Intel® Data-Centric Innovation Summit was held recently in Santa Clara, California for our partners and customers. During the summit, we made several key announcements in connection with our vision for data-centric computing and our product roadmap. With 90 percent of the world’s data being generated in the past two years and analysts forecasting 10x growth by 2025, the opportunities are tremendous. Intel’s end-to-end approach is core to our strategy for helping customers move, store and process this data. This gives our partners the ability to capitalize on a market predicted to reach $200 billion by 2022.
Data is at the heart of innovation. Think about artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, the Internet of Things, and virtual reality, for instance. Everything we hear and read about daily is dependent on how we move, store and process data faster, better and smarter. This requires a shift in the way we look at computing and data-centric technology. We need to think about it from end-to-end.
Intel’s Approach and Roadmap
Intel’s approach is think holistically about data.
Speed is everything. With amazing advances in processing power, the network and network connectivity become the bottlenecks. Intel is addressing these challenges with an Intel® Arria® 10 FPGA-based innovative SmartNICproduct line code-named Cascade Glacier and innovations such as Intel’s silicon photonics.
Storage must step up to the challenges presented by the coming data explosion. We’ve transformed the memory and storage hierarchy in the data center with Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory. It is a completely new class of memory and storage innovation that enables a large persistent memory tier between DRAM and SSDs.
Processing must consistently perform at light speed. During the Summit, we shared our roadmap for an upgraded Intel® Xeon® platform. Coming later this year and in 2019, you will see us launch a series of new processors. Cascade Lake is a future Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor based on 14nm technology that will introduce Intel Optane DC persistent memory and a set of new AI features. Cooper Lake will introduce a new generation platform with significant performance improvements including new I/O features and improved capabilities for AI/deep learning. And, Ice Lake will be based on 10nm technology and share a common platform with Cooper Lake.
