Intel commends the United States and United Kingdom for signing a historic data access agreement under the CLOUD (Clarifying Law of Overseas Access to Data) Act. Under the Executive Agreement, the first under the Act, the U.S. and U.K. will be able – in cases of serious crime – to demand electronic data from technology companies located in the other country, avoiding typical legal barriers.“Intel has supported this first-ever Executive Agreement between the U.S. and the UK since Congress passed the CLOUD act in 2018,” said Lisa Malloy, head of U.S. government relations for Intel. “The agreement establishes an innovative, privacy-centered framework for cross-border data access, reducing restrictions for a broad class of investigations of serious crimes. The agreement also has the benefit of not targeting residents of the other country and assuring cloud service providers that the release of data through Executive Agreements is in line with data protection regulations.”
