We know what happens outside of Intel, is felt inside of Intel. It’s one of the reasons we have taken a stand to address social inequities globally. We believe in human rights, respect, freedom, and dignity for everyone which is reflected in Intel’s Global Human Rights Principles.

In 2020, we saw and addressed the attacks on freedoms and rights, specifically against African Americans. In responding to the senseless acts of racism and violence, Intel’s CEO Bob Swan committed that standing on the sidelines is not an option. He said, “Black lives matter. Period. While racism can look very different around the world, one thing that does not look different is that racism of any kind will not be tolerated here at Intel or in our communities.”

Creating Lasting Solutions
Racism, issues of equal access, and other social inequities are global issues and not limited to the U.S. We are putting our commitment into action one meaningful step at a time, allowing us to address critical gaps while creating a framework that supports collective impact collaborating with organizations at the forefront of social equity and justice.

That’s why, in support of our RISE 2030 goals that includes doubling the number of women and underrepresented minorities in senior leadership, in part, we have added a milestone to accelerate action and advance racial equity. This milestone allows us to strengthen our internal talent pipeline in areas where we still have significant gaps. By the end of 2023, we want to have accomplished our goal of increasing representation of U.S. African American employees in senior, director and executive roles by 30%.

The actions we are taking will support us on our journey to become the most inclusive and responsible company on the planet. Since May 2020, we have taken a variety of measurable steps. These are not empty promises. These are real goals being created with our employees. A special thanks to many in our employee resource groups, who shared their perspectives and experiences through listening sessions with senior leadership and contributed actionable suggestions.

Below are just a few examples of how we are driving progress forward:

  • Created a Social Equity office to focus on social justice and equity globally.

  • Implemented a day of inclusion floating holiday for U.S. employees.

  • Incorporated a social equity milestone to help accelerate our RISE 2030 inclusion workforce representation goals.

This is not a one-and-done approach. We will leverage Intel’s full capabilities to address issues at the federal level in the U.S. through legislative and policy action. On the global stage, we are committed to solving difficult challenges by setting clear goals and being transparent with our data to raise the bar for ourselves. At the same time, we are partnering with the industry to create enduring change.

Stay tuned for continued updates in 2021 about the social equity work we’re doing internally and externally in our communities. We must drive systemic change and expand our impact globally, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because of the benefits that diversity, equity and inclusion brings – they are essential to driving innovation forward and delivering stronger business results.

Our purpose – to create world-changing technology that enriches the lives of every person on earth – guides us every day. This is hard work, yet we will continue to use the power of our technology, commitment to our communities and passion of our people to create a more inclusive, equitable and just world.
