By Todd Brady, Global Environmental Director at Intel Corporation
Just how big is the largest solar carport in the U.S.? Large enough to park nearly 3,000 cars, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards or whatever your favorite form of transportation is. We’re proud to announce that today we are unveiling the largest private solar carport in the U.S.! Here are a couple more facts about Intel’s new solar installation at our Folsom, California campus that capture the significance of this investment:
- The new solar carport brings the total on-site solar energy generation to 8.7 MW, making this installation one of the largest in California and among the top-10 in the US
- At peak capacity the new solar arrays will generate enough power to meet over 50% of the Intel campus’s energy usage, equivalent to meeting the power demand of almost 1,000 homes
It’s also a lot of welcome shade for our employees when those July and August temps climb into the triple digits.
If you allow me to brag on Folsom’s behalf just a bit more, this campus continues to raise the “green” bar for all of us at Intel. In addition to the new solar array, the site has recently reduced its water consumption by over 40% and has established a group of on-site beehives to help restore the bee colonies in the area (the honey that gets served in our cafes is not too bad either).
The best part – we aren’t done yet. And to help us get there – what are your “green” accomplishments? One of the things I love about my job is the opportunity to meet with other companies and learn from their innovative practices. Sustainability is not a single project but an ongoing journey. Our Folsom campus has taken a big step down that path, but there is still much to do. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy parking in the shade.

Dear Mr. Todd Brady,
As a courtesy, I have attempted to make my message as short and to the point as possible.
My name is Lawrence Britt, founder of TireWise LLC. TireWise is a new service that addresses under inflated tires on vehicles and its impact on fuel waste and excessive carbon emissions.
I would like to help add to your sustainability department and further their efforts in helping reduce Intel’s carbon foot print by extending our service to your employees. This will not only benefit your employees directly but promote good will to them and their community.
Studies show that 80% of vehicle tires on U.S. roads are under inflated by as much as 20% or more and have contributed annually to 1.5 billion gallons in wasted fuel and billions of pounds of carbon emissions into the atmosphere unnecessarily. To combat this problem, TireWise comes to your workplace to inflate tires on both your employees’ and company fleet vehicles to their proper levels on a monthly basis without driver participation.
Recently, I visited your campus in Chandler and viewed thousands of vehicles in your employee parking lots. This is an ideal venue for our tire inflation service since they are accessible and parked for long durations on a daily basis.
If you think this service would benefit your company, the planet, and your employees, I would be honored to give an analysis or a short presentation about TireWise to you and your management team.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Britt
