Thin is in - Part 2

posted by Murali Veeramoney on January 21, 2008

Apple has again come out with an exciting new platform. It is the MacBook Air and it has definitely created a new buzz in the PC industry. The Lorado Ultra thin concept had led the path in showcasing what these kind of systems can be (see “The World’s Thinnest Notebook”). Apple has definitely created a wonder in this category - and thin is now definitely in!!!

These systems will soon become the new norm for the industry (just like the Motorola RAZR in cellphones) and does take a lot of innovation in system design to develop a product like this. With Intel’s newly announced CPU and associated platform components in small form factor, system design is simpler and the system thermals is no longer the thickness limiter. Interestingly enough the LAN connector and optical disks are fundamental thickness limiters and these ultra-thin systems will need to remove these components to achieve the desired thinness (as shown in the Lorado Ultra-thin concept).

As this category develops, there will be more and more systems that provide the thin, light and exciting form factor experience to users. The race continues!

CES is over, but the MacBook Air is worth talking about

posted by Marc Wallis on January 19, 2008

It’s been a week since I’ve returned from CES and all the buzz has calmed down, but I really wanted to talk about the new MacBook Air . I know they didn’t showcase this new computer at CES, but since Apple announced it at the beginning of CES, I figured I’d go for it.

MacBook Air Dimensions

I’ve concluded this thing is extremely cool and worth owning!

At first, I thought it would be too small and light to be a serious computer. How could this nearly paper thin thing keep up with the heavy tasks I’d throw at it? As I studied it and read more reviews on it, I’ve come to realize that it’s not the “bulk” that makes a powerful computer powerful. It’s the technology inside. And this thing has everything I need.

iPhone Karma at CES

posted by DL Byron on January 15, 2008

Offsetting the mean bloggers at CES, the exhaustion from a show that the NYtimes described as

One million exhibitors. Sixty million attendees. Four trillion booths spread across an area the size of Rhode Island.

and the brutal traffic in Vegas, my hope in humanity was restored (however briefly) when someone found and turned in my iPhone.

I was making my way to the John Lennon bus (seen here in this video), and had my iPhone, in a pouch, attached to my belt (I’m over forty, so I wear belts). I made a call and a few minutes later noticed it was gone. First panic, then a high-alert status as I looked, searched, and fretted about what would happen to it. I retraced my steps, looked for anyone using an iPhone (found one guy, and later gave him the thumbs up, when I found it), and waited. Repeatedly returning to where it most likely fell off my belt, eventually a nice woman asked me if I had lost a phone? “Yes!” I said, an “iPhone.” She told me she had it and kindly handed it to me.

The most interesting thing about the recovery was my good friend Marcus emailed with the subject “your phone:”

Lupe from the exhibitor registration tent called me to let me know that she has your phone. Just go to the tent and ask for her.

I called him amazed and he said, “your phone called me over an over again. It was weird.” When the iPhone dropped, it must’ve called Marcus — I think it was sending for help. I’m glad I found it and thanks to whoever turned it in.

Later, I told the iPhone Karma story in the Intel@CES booth.

Video: Core 2 Duo - up close

posted by Bryan Rhoads on January 14, 2008

Beyond the Hi-Def Lounge, beyond the mobile majesty of our MIDs and past our amazing laptop spiral (video) at CES 2008, we wanted to get back to what’s central in all of our lives.

We had a team positioned with the silicon cores of an Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessor. As we saw on the Las Vegas Strip… showing this technology up-close is awe-inspiring:

My Internet Delight -- MIDs @ CES2008

posted by Ken Kaplan on January 13, 2008

Prior to CES, Intel’s Uday Keshavdas posted a quick story letting people know that a cool collection of new MIDs, Mobile Internet Devices, would be inside the Intel Booth. The night before CES started, Tom Foremski told me at the PodTech BlogHaus that he got to see an MID on the blogger bus ride from the Bay Area. And sure enough, CNBC’s Jim Goldman showed off a MID and talked about them when he sat down with Intel CEO Paul Otellini.

Live HDTV on your Laptop without ANY Wires

posted by Esther Andrews on January 11, 2008

As one of the Intel booth demo staffers, I had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of visitors to the Intel booth. The one thing they all had in common was a passion for Intel technology and the desire to learn how they can have the best computing experience possible. I’m happy to report that many of these folks told me how much they love their Intel-based PCs and that they will only consider Intel processors in their future PC purchases! And I had an incredibly easy demo to show these folks because it sold itself. Live HDTV on your laptop via broadcast, cable, or satellite as well as DVR capabilities all streamed over 802.11n Wi-Fi. And the quality of the HD was gorgeous! I picked up the laptop and walked all around the booth to stunned observers who realized they were watching live local Las Vegas broadcast HDTV without ANY wires.

The demo, enabled by Intel® Centrino® mobile technology with built-in 802.11n wireless capability and a HAVA Wireless HD* box from Monsoon Multimedia, was just another great example of why CES is the place to be for the coolest technology in the world!

Gizmodo rates their ten best booths of CES

posted by Joe English on January 11, 2008

Tech blog Gizmodo had a nice run-down of some of the top booths at the 2008 CES show, among them Disney, LG and Belkin. We’re proud to report that Intel rated their number one booth. (Thanks!)

Gizmodo praised the “humongus and helicious helix” of laptops in the center of the booth. The “spiral”, as we called it, featured 52 of the latest laptops based on Intel(R) Centrino(R) processor technology. The sprial was surrounded by other displays of innovative notebook form-factors and interactive games about silicon technology.

"Intel HD Video" using Intel integrated graphics and cool looking home PC's.

I have already blogged about gaming on Intel integrated graphics, but what about video?

For some reason there is still doubt out there in computerland that an integrated graphics chipset can output high definition video in all its full 1080P glory.

To make things easier for customers to be certain that maximum sofa-based bliss can be theirs - we will be labeling PC’s with this flashy new logo:

What's new for my digital home?

posted by Marc Wallis on January 10, 2008

Unfortunately, I’m a tiny bit disappointed I didn’t find the killer solution or technology that will bump my digital home up a notch. Yet, I didn’t go home without something fun to envy. Actually, I found three things to envy!

The plane home

posted by Bryan Rhoads on January 10, 2008

Nevada means “covered in snow” or “snowcapped”. The mountains around Las Vegas are surprisingly breathtaking as I blog from seat 8F on a flight back to Portland.

There is a very colorful ridge of mountains just to the west of the city w/ beautiful red and orange strata, demonstrating the powerful tectonic forces at work on the North American plate below. Snow has fallen on some of the higher peaks.

I’m beaming. What a fantastic show. The energy and excitement in and around town was physically felt. I’m so proud of our bloggers who covered this event. Everyone demonstrated and personified why social media is so critical at large events like CES. It extends our booth and our technology offerings virtually to customers and users all around the planet. It becomes a chronicle of events; an archive of time and place.

It’s inclusive, it’s open and it’s colorful… like the mountains below.

blog_room.JPG I hope you’ve found or find value in this blog. I hope that the passion we have for technology, the zeal and enthusiasm we have for our jobs at Intel comes across through our entries.

We brought some smart folks to the table. Our goal was to simply provide perspective on technology and consumer electronics for those not in attendance. To contribute our unique voices to the widening social web. (The picture is a shot of the “Blog Central” room upstairs in the Intel booth w/ a few of the crew).

Please let me know if you think this goal was met and thanks for coming along.

All my best,

Bryan Rhoads

Less Techie, More Meaningful at CES

posted by Ken Kaplan on January 10, 2008

This is my seventh consecutive CES, and this year’s show was more about what people can do with technology rather than just tauting the new things technology can do. The core theme of Intel CEO Paul Otellini’s keynote was refreshing — we’re moving from a “go to Internet” to a more “proactive, predictive and context aware” Internet. To me that means the Internet will serve me more effectively the more I use it and the more comfortable I get sharing what I need or like most.

Feel the music, get into the HD

posted by Joe English on January 10, 2008

SonicChair.jpg

I’ve often wondered how far we could take immersive media. I experienced a cutting edge application of surround sound and HD video right in our Intel booth here at CES 2008. The area was called the High-Def Lounge and the audio and video experience really took me by surprise.

Let me tell you a little bit about this experience. I was seated in a chair that looked sort of like a big bubble, a bubble covered in gorgeous white leather. When I sat down I had speakers all around me - above, below, and to the sides - built into the chair. They were sound controls similar to those on a home thearter to my right, allowing me to adjust the volume and bass levels. In front of me was one of the latest 45nm Intel(R) Centrino(R) processor-based notebooks from Lenovo.

Do you share that rock star fantasy with me? The one that has you on center stage, blasting music out of your guitar in front of thousands of screaming fans? The one where you’re wearing those cool sunglasses that Bono wears, even though your in a dark stadium, just because they look so darn cool?

OK, I admit it. Like a lot of mid-30 somethings that grew up on Rock N Roll, I have these fantasies. If you do as well, then the new Guitar Hero III for the PC is for you. We were lucky enough to have a notebook computer based on the newest Intel(R) Centrino(R) processor technology set up with the new game and the Intel booth has been rockin’ here at CES all week long. In fact, as I’m sitting here in the back of the booth, I can hear a little “Hit me with your best shot” coming through the walls and it’s taking me back to … well, an early time in my life.

Intel defies gravity

posted by Bryan Rhoads on January 09, 2008

Intel invited 35 lucky thrill-seekers for a once-in-a-lifetime Extreme “Zero G” flight today in Las Vegas.

It’s the same flight that NASA uses to train astronauts and where the film Apollo 13 filmed the weightless scenes of Tom Hanks and others.

An international crew consisted of contest and sweepstakes winners from around the world (Australia, France Germany, Italy, Korea, PRC, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and the USA). In conjuction w/ the flight, last night Intel also gave away Zero G flight suits at the hottest blogger party on the Strip.

Mooly Eden Among the crew were Intel’s Mooly Eden shown here w/ a floating tablet PC demonstrating how Intel “defies gravity” with laptop performance. Eden is vice president and general manager of the Intel Mobile Platforms Group.

I also think I saw blogger/Cluetrain co-author Doc Searls and Andru Edwards of GearLive. Did Scoble have a conflict? :(… (Hey Robert… Good to see you again at the party last night).

Here are some more shots taken by Rohit Bhargava - he’s also posted up the entire day’s flight up on our Flikr site… Thanks for sharing… and I hope that the “Vomit Comet” didn’t hold up to its name.

Looks like a lot of fun.

WiMAX -- Is it ready yet?

posted by Julie Coppernoll on January 09, 2008

For the US market, the two service providers that are getting ready to deploy WiMAX networks are Sprint and Clearwire. Tuesday at CES XOHM, Intel, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung all stood together to talk to press and analysts about bringing WiMAX to the market. Sprint gave an update on their deployment plans. It was an exciting discussion not because they were talking WiMAX but because its clear that WiMAX is so close to reality. These companies are talking about something that will be available to millions of people in 2008 – unlike many of the things that we see or hear about at CES, WiMAX is coming really really soon.

Big, Sharp, Rounded Displays

posted by Jason Swihart on January 09, 2008

One of the things I keep seeing at this year’s CES are big, sharp, HD displays. But, apart from crisp pictures, I also noticed lots of soft curves, touchable acrylic bezels, and most popular, shiny black surrounds.

Although beautiful and desirable, I must say, these glossy, rounded design motifs remind me of something—I can’t quite put my finger on what it might be.

Models, Parties, Bloggers AND Design

posted by DL Byron on January 09, 2008

My take away so far from CES — besides models, parties, and bloggers — is that the PC industry is finally embracing design. I’m an Apple fan boy, always have been, but my snobbery is soon to fade when these sleek PCs hit the market.

Check this video on fashion laptops and ok, a rawhide PC isn’t that sexy IMHO, but it’s a start.

Cars of the Future from GM

posted by Esther Andrews on January 09, 2008

In an exciting CES keynote, General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner showed a dazzled crowd their automotive future. A cool new innovation he described was “Stolen Vehicle Slow Down” that uses GPS technology to pinpoint the location of a stolen car, then provides that location to local police. Once the police have a clear line of sight, an audio announcement is made in the car that the driver needs to pull the car safely over to the side of the road and that the car is being slowed down for law enforcement authorities. The car is then remotely slowed down so the thief can’t take off with the police in pursuit.

Ultra thin notebooks at CES

posted by Murali Veeramoney on January 08, 2008

One of the most exciting displays at the Intel booth is the showcase of ultra thin notebooks. These systems are innovative and sleek. They definitely have good performance and battery life, but tradeoff in some functionality. However, if you are on the go roadwarrior, these systems are for you. If you see it you will want it to buy it. Thin is definitely in for notebooks. I think the trend is similar to cellphones. Thin systems are definitely more expensive as these are premium systems. They require differnet materials (e.g magnesium, carbon fiber), use HDI (high density interconnect) technology for the motherboard, require innovative engineering for placing the components and finally use ultra thin components that are difficult to manufacture and hence expensive. I believe this category of systems has tremendous end user appeal that it will grow significantly and as the volume increases these systems will drop in price. All major companies have systems in this category. The interesting thing is that almost all systems are 13.3”. Looks like that this is sweet spot for the ultra thin notebooks for the compactness and the technical reason for trading off length and width for height. Here are some examples of systems shown at the Intel booth from Toshibha, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Sony, Dell and Dialogue. Looks the race for the thinnest system is on in the industry.

The WiMAX demo with RC race cars turned out great!

posted by Marc Wallis on January 08, 2008

In a previous post, I mentioned this fun demo that Intel was putting together with drivers in simulated F1 cars in the main Intel booth, controlling small remote controlled cars across the street at Pit Lane Park. There are small video cameras mounted inside the RC cars, and that video is steamed back to the main booth so the drivers can see where they are going. What makes this a WiMAX demo is that the control signals for the cars and the drivers videos are streamed back and forth across a WiMAX network. Fascinating! I watched the demonstration from both ends and it really was a great demo and fun to watch.

I made a short video clip of all the action.

The Fastest Wireless Connection at CES

The vehicle is equipped with an in-dash pc from Azentek that streams music from the Internet, has a web browser, and also relays our position back to the “mother ship.”

Hollywood and digital content - will it ever be truly easy?

Smash Mouth Lead Singer, Steve Harwell, Intel’s New CEO!?

posted by Esther Andrews on January 07, 2008

Intel CEO and President Paul Otellini today in his CES keynote helped Smash Mouth’s lead singer Steve Harwell jam virtually with his band back home in his Mom & Dad’s garage. It looked like so much fun Paul offered to trade jobs with Steve and for a few seconds it looked like a big announcement in the making. Imagine Intel being led by a rock star! And that’s exactly what Paul showed to the crowd…what the future will look like if Intel were run by a rock star.

The Internet will be proactive and know where you are, what you want, and when you want it. You’ll be able to carry an instant language translator in your pocket. You’ll be able to virtually create bands and jam together real time. You’ll create an avatar of yourself and create videos. Much of this technology already exists from exciting innovators like eJammingAUDiiO, BIGstage, and Virtual Heroes*.

Paul showed the crowd the new Mobile Internet Devices enabled by Intel’s new “Menlow” platform that delivers the full Internet in your pocket with video, flash, Java* and more; he talked about the new system on a chip “Canmore” that Intel has developed for CE devices; and how Moore’s Law – that “every 2 years the number of transistors doubles” will mean that Intel can help make these exciting experiences come to life.

Steve Harwell helped close the keynote singing “hey, now, you’re an All Star, get your game on…” Intel definitely has its game on and is ready to bring you the next generation Internet!

posted by Denise Bohling on January 07, 2008

Most of you have seen the YouTube video of Tay Zonday singing Chocolate Rain.

This viral sensation captured over 13 million views on YouTube and numerous spoof videos (you know you are a hit when a famous band, i.e. Tre Cool from Green Day spoofs your video). Tay (aka Adam Bahner) is here at the Intel booth demonstrating how he rendered the Chocolate Rain video on a system based on Intel technology. I’m so proud.

Skulltrail Sneak Peek in the Intel CES Secret Bunker

posted by Nick Knupffer on January 07, 2008

Yup, it is dark inside the secret Intel CES bunker here in Las Vegas, so apologies for the dark shaky-cam nature of my little film below. ;-)

I caught up with Francois Piednoel who gave me a glimpse into the power of Skulltrail. For those of you who don’t know - Skulltrail is the codename for Intel’s ultmate enthusiast product, a two CPU 8 core overclockable monster machine with four x16 PCI-Express slots. Francois was showing it off with 2 Nvidia G80’s nicely nestled within the bowels of a beautifully painted Alienware ninja gaming rig.

Thin Is In

posted by Murali Veeramoney on January 07, 2008

Computers are now household items. Like electricity & telephones, computers is a must have. Almost everything is online and almost everyone knows how to get to the web; watch video and read/send emails.

In such a world of consumers where everyone needs and knows about computers, how do companies differentiate?

The form factor of the PC (like design of cars) and the usage experience are becoming very important.

Spoiler Alert, Panasonic has some good stuff under the covers

posted by Craig Raymond on January 07, 2008

OK, I’ve been a little lax on the keynote secrets, so here’s a juicy tid bit about Panasonic’s upcoming keynote you guys might want to tune in to.

Toshihiro Sakamoto goes on tomorrow for Panasonic’s 9am keynote presentation, and the web is flying with rumors about their big upcoming announcement. Some say it’s a huge muscle flex in the race for the world’s largest LCD, or more info re: Panasonic’s announcement today around “wireless HD”.

Well, it’s hard to keep secrets behind the stage. But I’ve got to give it to ‘em, they’re good. They’ve got a huge canvassed mystery behind the stage, with so many engineers working under the sheet, it looks like they’ve captured a rabid octopus. And they won’t let me anywhere near it. Usually between demo guys, there’s a loose camaraderie. We like to gather at the events during set up and show off your good stuff (a friendly demo-off, if you will). But not this keynote. These guys have something good under cover, judging from their hush.

So if you have a chance to check out the morning keynote, it should be worth the line. See you there.

Are you ready for it? I’m ready for it!!

posted by Marc Wallis on January 06, 2008

So yesterday, I talked about this cool WiMAX demo that Intel is pulling together. Today, I got a glimpse into another WiMAX demo. But before I get in this, let me ask you – are you as excited about WiMAX as I am??

When WiFi first arrived and Intel introduced Centrino technology, it hit a hot button for me (and apparently a bazillion other people also). I’ve wanted to be free from the wires for some time. I got my first Centrino based laptop immediately and ever since then, I have been connecting at coffee shops, airports, hotels, friend’s houses, car repair shop waiting lobbies, and even the dentist’s office (they didn’t offer WiFi, but the Starbucks three doors down did, and my laptop caught that signal from waiting room. )

Then I heard about this thing called WiMAX - described as Wifi on steroids. Oh yeah. I wanted it. I needed it. But I had to wait. Well, 2008 is the year of WiMAX (so they say). Sure, I connect to the web with my Smartphone. And I’ve used my cell phone as a modem for my laptop. But I never get the speeds or reliability that I really want. I think WiMAX will do it for me.

Is it just me, or are you as excited about WiMAX as I am?

Anyway, about that demo.

Live from the Microsoft keynote! All MS Execs required to wear same sweater.....

posted by Craig Raymond on January 06, 2008

Here’s the goods from the CES 2008 opening keynote. CES CEO Gary Shapiro gave the show introduction, which included the huge laundry list of glamorous presenters and attendees (Ford, Disney, Yahoo, Panasonic, Samsung, Paramount, so on and so forth). But the hoopla was around Bill’s retirement from Microsoft, and the end of a 11 year keynote run at CES. Enter Bill.

You can find a ton of full details around Bill’s keynote on the web, so I’ve broken down some of my highlights from the speech.

Human technology

posted by Bryan Rhoads on January 06, 2008

The throngs have converged on Vegas. I’m a CES newbie and in fact I haven’t been to Las Vegas for 15 years… back when I was fresh out of University here for the NAB.

CES newbie yes… CE newbie… no, neo-Luddite… maybe.

And its not the Luddism that dis’es technology (I work for Intel after all). I just can’t have my time-wasted w/ technology that gets in the way, is poorly designed or has group-think features to meet the widest market possible… i.e. resembling the Winchester Mystery House when all the group design sessions have ceased and stakeholder requirements have been captured and crammed into version 1.0.

I’m looking for focus. I’m looking for wonderful and beautiful design. I approach my technology as a human, not as a gadget-geek. I also approach technology wearing a social scientist’s hat, with a wink and a nod towards Web 2… i.e. what are the societal, anthropological or environmental externalities, what are the costs, impacts, etc.

So that’s it… Is that too much?

I’m on the hunt for human technology. Where should I look?

When demos go bad......

posted by Craig Raymond on January 06, 2008

All demo guys have this commonly recurring nightmare the closer you get to the gig. It’s where you’re onstage with the CEO, and the demo you’re enthusiastically presenting blue-screens and freezes up while you stutter and stammer about “what should have happened”. The next day the headline on Tom’s Hardware reads, “Intel demo goes bad at CES, stock drops $1.37” And that’s when you wake up in a cold sweat.

Here’s a quick test. Google “Gates CES blue screen”. Let me know how many hits you get. Yikes.

So that’s why the late hours of tech and re-tech. Every light, mic, and graphic will be perfect. And it has to be. So when someone asks me what’s it’s like to be a demo guy, I tell them this story.

WiMAX and Remote Controlled Cars

posted by Marc Wallis on January 05, 2008

I’m in Vegas now, and getting amp’d up to see everything. But before I got lost in everything else, my first stop was to check out what is supposed to be a really cool WiMAX demo Intel’s putting on that I’m dying to see.

Follow me while I try to explain..

In the main Intel booth in Central hall, there are two BMW F1 simulator cars that visitors will sit in to drive a small remote control race car around a track. Sounds simple, until you find out that the race track is actually across the street from the convention center at the BMW Sauber F1 Pit Lane Park. The control signal for these little cars will be carried over a WiMAX network. The drivers (in the central hall) will see where their little cars are going (in Pit Lane Park across the street) with video streamed back over the WiMAX network. How cool will that be!!

I stopped at Pit Lane Park to check out the race track – it’s still being built out: WiMAX Demo - at Pit Lane Park

In the main Intel booth, they were finishing up with the simulator cars: WiMAX Demo - in the Booth

I’ll let you know on Monday how it turns out.

Pre-Show Peek

posted by Marc Wallis on January 05, 2008

I’ve been to lots of tradeshows and conferences before I joined the ‘Events Marketing’ team, but on that first day I walked into a convention center during setup and saw how all those huge, amazing booths were put together - I was blown away. Maybe it’s only me, but I find it fascinating and fun to watch.

So, as promised, I got some snapshots from a buddy of mine of the Intel booth being setup. Here’s a glimpse of what it looks like before most people see it:

It's the Year of Mobility at CES!

posted by Esther Andrews on January 05, 2008

It’s the year of Mobility at CES and I’ll be covering how Intel is changing the game with technologies that redefine mobile computing. I’ll be in the Intel booth all week where we’re showcasing some of the coolest, newest notebook PCs with built-in Blu-ray* players, high performance gaming, video encoding, video streaming and lots more!

I’ll also be providing coverage of some of the keynotes and panels around CES. As for that spoiler alert from Craig Raymond, I may tackle him for a place in line to see GM CEO, Rick Wagoner’s keynote. As an owner of undoubtedly one of GM’s coolest cars - the Saturn Sky (Redline Turbo, 260hp!) I can’t wait to see what new vehicle “might be” shown in that keynote.

It’s been a newsworthy week on the One Laptop Per Child front as well. Perhaps I’ll get a seat in the back row of the “Technology and Emerging Countries: Advancing Development Through Technology Investments” Industry Insider Series to hear what Nicholas Negroponte has to say, then report back from the Intel-cubicle dweller’s perspective!

See you at CES!

Secrets, and more secrets.......

posted by Craig Raymond on January 04, 2008

Feel free to pay attention to the man behind the curtain…….

I’m very excited this year to bring you the Behind the Scenes look at 2008 CES, and for the very 1st time I’ll be giving you the real “what happens” behind the curtain for the CES keynotes from the eyes of the demo guy. Paul’s keynote is scheduled for the 7th, and I’ll be dishing the dirt till the big show. Wanna know what Intel’s showing at the Big Gig? What the other speakers have hidden under the stage? Here’s the place.

While the rest of Vegas is just waking up to the CES monster that will take over the city over the next week, the keynote and booth teams start today. In the Venetian keynote ballroom, the stage is being built, lights are going up. Grips and roadies of all shapes and sizes are hanging screens and monitors, and production is in full swing. But, the theme of this years CES is secrets. There will be glitz, music, and surprises. There will be celebrities (oh, yes! Celebs!).

DSC00055.JPG

Now, I can’t come clean right away, but stay tuned, and I’ll be dropping some hints along way you just might be interested in…..

Spoiler Alert - Psst. There might be a vehicle in GM’s keynote……..don’t tell anybody.

Ok, you might have guessed that. But tune in for all the juicy gossip, glamour, sex, and excitement of being behind the scenes at CES 2008 (….maybe without the sex, but they told more I use “sex” in my blog, the more people will read it. Sex.). Thanks for reading!

P.S. So that everyone knows, I’m up $50. Vegas!

CES 2008 is coming! Can you feel it?

posted by Joe English on January 03, 2008

It was just twelve short months ago. I can remember the moment vividly. I was walking through the main hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center on the Sunday before the CES 2007 show opened. Forklifts were racing around, contractors were hanging spotlights, and the final touches were being put on trade-show booths seemingly the size of your typical major-league baseball stadiums. I could feel that the activity was building towards a coming crescendo, a unseen wave of people converging on Las Vegas from around the globe who would arrive in a few short hours.

And in the midst of this furious sea of noise and light, I stopped in my tracks, looking across a vast expanse of red carpet. My mouth fell open. Being placed onto a podium next to the aisle, from an overhead crane no less, was an HD LCD TV bigger than anything I had ever imagined. A sign below it said simply, “World’s largest LCD TV”.

“Cool,” I thought to myself. This was going to be a great show.
