Breaking Barriers & Unleashing Computing Experiences -- IDF Day 2 Mobility Keynotes

Intel laptop innovator David (Dadi) Perlmutter and ultra mobility leader Anand Chandrasekher kicked off Day 2 (Wednesday) at Intel’s Fall IDF in San Francisco. Mobile PC lovers like me are lickin’ those lips.
In this audio highlights Podcast, Dadi hits the latest trends in mobile computing and looks ahead at mobile WiMAX. Dadi talked about the Centrino Duo processor technology and mobile platform refresh coming in early 2008, when laptops will feature Intel’s next-gen 45nm high-k mobile processor (codenamed Penryn).
DADI & ANAD AUDIO KEYNOTE HIGHLIGHTS
Dadi showed the next generation Montevina (blog by Gizmo Geeks) processor technology that is set to roll out in mid-2008, which includes the Penryn mobile processor and the next-generation chipset with DDR3 memory support. This is notable for being Intel’s first Centrino processor for notebooks to offer the option of integrated Wi-Fi, WiMAX wireless technologies for greater wireless broadband access.
Anand showed some sweet personal mobile Internet devices — . He described Intel’s “silicon roadmap” to delivering processors with radical reductions in power consumption and package sizes. He also talked about leading industry players working with Intel to establish new Web devices, or mobile Internet Devices and Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) designs.
He got into the upcoming Intel Menlow (blog post by AnandTech) platform that includes a new processor, codenamed Silverthorne then talked about Intel’s “Moorestown” (blogs by Gizmodo) platform, the future-future platform for small devices.

A nice collection of Ultra Mobile Devices by Asus, BenQ, Compal, Elektrobit, HTC, Inventec and Quantawas were proof of great progress made in a short time.

As part of Intel’s “Full Internet in Your Pocket” vision, Anand was joined by Adobe who demonstrated Adobe AIR Application on Intel Menlow-based platform. Here’s a related blog post by Intel Software Network Group’s Aaron Teersteg, who says:
“…you have to give Adobe credit for being brash and they do have a great track record with introducing technology that can create new markets… Flash video has been a game changer.”

UPDATE: In response to Kal’s comment. At IDF it was stated that in Q1 2008 Santa Rosa will get a refresh with Penryn processors and 800MHZ front side bus. If a mobile hardware platform has no a full-sized keyboard for touch typing - it’s just a media player that can’t compete with any notebook that has it.
If a PDA phone or smartphone hardware platform is bigger than a MotoRAZR as a standard for cell phones, 100 millions of people will not use it everyday.

um, it was Macromedia Flash for a long time, until last year when Adobe bought Macromedia.
