Video peek inside Intel's new 45nm fab

posted by Jeff Moriarty on January 27, 2007

Normally I don’t like to honk the Intel horn here, as that’s why we employ a phalanx of marketing types, but Scoble posted a great video tour of our new 45nm fab and a breakdown of some of the interesting points.

As a cubicle-dweller at Intel, I find the fabs fascinating. I’ve been on a few internal tours, but I still don’t know all the bits, parts, and processes inside. They are also a challenge to support from an IT perspective, which I’m happy to talk about one of these days if anyone is curious.

Actually, having started at Intel as a thin films process engineer way back then, I must say I’m totally impressed with what they’re telling about this new 45nm process technology. I mean, Hafnium-based gate ox?!? Who would’ve imagined… this is serious R&D output indeed!
