Industrial Applications for IoT at Embedded World 2014

It’s that time of the year when the embedded community comes together for the biggest show of its kind at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany. This is always a big showcase for Intel and I’m pleased to offer a behind the scenes look at the show~Jim Robinson, General Manager, Segments and Broad Market Division, Internet of Things Solutions Group

Embedded World 2014 is right around the corner, and our big themes this year are Big Data, security, and virtualization. I want to offer a quick overview of the innovations we’ll be presenting in the Intel Stand, Hall 1, Space #320 and Wind River Stand, Hall 5 Space #360. Consider this your invitation to join Intel and our ecosystem of companies to see how we’re accelerating the Internet of Things (IoT). Along with powerful applications for the factory floor, we will demonstrate the grace and beauty of Intel technology in action through the mechanical fingers of Shelly, a zither-playing robot.

Securing the IoT in an Industrial Setting

This demo will showcase the Baosight iCentroGate-GAP (ICG-GAP), an integrated device-to-Internet solution for securing the IoT in industrial environments. This technology from Shanghai-based Baosight enables secure data acquisition from a company’s industrial network as well as the secure transfer of that data to an external network on one set of hardware, and runs on a virtualized system consolidation platform.

Virtual Industrial Workloads in Harmony

See the amazing zither-playing robot that took home a prestigious Gold Award from the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) show. “Shelly” will demonstrate how multiple workloads—including motion control, human machine interface (HMI), and vibration analysis—can be consolidated on a single computing device while achieving real-time performance in a virtualized environment.

Big Data, Cloud, and M2M Applications

Other great demos to catch in our booth:

  • By replacing complex queries with a simple visual language, an interactive big data exploration from Dell OEM and Synerscope will illustrate the big data potential in 170 million flight records.
  • ADLINK will show how a typical cloud application interfaces with local board monitoring and control functions using its CM3-mHL, a PCI-104 SBC that incorporates the U-Series version of the 4th Generation Intel® Core™ processor, ensuring ultra-low power performance.
  • Eurotech will demonstrate how easy it is to build a sophisticated M2M application simply and quickly with ReliaGATE—designed for interoperable connectivity while ensuring a scalable, secure hardware foundation that is highly optimized for M2M and IoT applications.

In the booth you’ll also find the very latest embedded boards with an innovative “Wall of Boards” showcase from the Intel ecosystem.

Finally, we’re excited to host members of the Intel® Intelligent Systems Alliance at the EMEA Connections event on Monday, February 24 to discuss the Internet of Things.

If you’re heading to Nuremberg for the conference, I hope you’ll visit us in the Intel Stand, Hall 1, Space #320 and Wind River Stand, Hall 5 Space #360.  And stay tuned for more during the show on this blog, follow @Inteliot, and join the conversation with #Inteliot.
