Meet Intel Social Media Insiders at IDF's Upload Lounge

posted by Ken Kaplan on August 17, 2008

Cathy Brooks is a long time friend who agreed to advise Intel on participating with social media. I first met her when she was working her executive producer magic with TechTV. Around 2002, her brainchild “Titans of Tech” one-hour documentary style show put me to work for weeks setting up interviews and compiling video for her production crew as they wanted to looked back and ahead at every major thing Intel did and was doing. I set her team up with some Intel greats like Andy Grove, Craig Barrett, Gene Meieran and others in the silicon manufacturing industry.

Cathy and I remained friends, and she has always kept me in tuned with the latest new media happenings, like when Vox celebrated it’s official launch in San Francisco’s Bimbo’s club — one of my favorite San Francisco night clubs, where I high-fived Bootsy Collins as he bobbed and weaved while bass-thumpin’ through the crowd.

Cathy’s big energy is trained on the wonders of Seesmic these days. If you’re into quick video capturing and sharing, that’s one of the hot services to try.

Here’s a video I shot with uncanny Cathy Brooks just as she left our first Intel Insider meeting early this summer.

Many of the Intel Insider team will be at IDF on Wednesday, including Tom Foremski, JD Lasica, Irina Slutsky of GeekTV and Christian Perry from Snap Summit. Justin Kan of JustinTV and Mashable’s Peter Cashmore may also be there.

Several Intel Insiders can’t attend IDF, including iJustine,Sara Austin of Pop17, Brian Solis and SomeWhat Frank (his first visit to Intel video below), so we’ll re-group as a team in the Fall and map our next steps.

If you’re at IDF this Wednesday, come meet the Intel Insiders at the Upload Lounge on the Third Floor of Moscone Center West. Stay for the happy hour, starting at 6:00 p.m. and meet special guests Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple) and Moira Gunn (NPR’s “Tech Nation”). Hope to see you there!
