Innovation Celebration - Maker Faire @ IDF!

posted by Kiesha Cochrane on July 30, 2008

As I count down the days to my very first IDF I can’t help but be excited for the final day festivities. Yes, I am a newbie to the IDF squad and I hear there are tons of events to look forward to during the week like the upload lounge, exhibit floor, keynotes and Ultimate Geek competition, but my excitement for the last day’s “Innovation Celebration” stems from two words: Maker Faire.

If you haven’t heard of Maker Faire it’s essentially a science fair for grown ups but better. Put on by Maker Magazine, Maker Faire is composed of do it yourselfer engineering types who create amazing off the wall inventions by combining super high-tech wizardry with low-tech craftsmanship. These inventions are showcased at events around the country. Luckily for us, about two dozen “Makers” will display their technology, robotics and eco-friendly focused projects at our “mini” Maker Faire on Day 3 of IDF (August 21st) from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please note that access to this event is limited to registered IDF attendees.

Check out Maker Faire 08 which can give you a good idea of why I’m so excited for Day 3. Also, take a look-see at intel.com/idf for a full schedule of the weeks events.
