The Intel Developer Forum - Make It *Your* Community

posted by Annie Rodkins on July 31, 2008

As part of the team that has been working on “IDF San Francisco” for weeks, it’s hard to believe there’s less than a month to go before the conference starts. The excitement is palpable and the anticipation is electrifying. Yes, I am getting carried away a little bit, but that’s easy to do when I think of everything we have in store.

One of the things I’m most excited about is the variety of opportunities for anyone to dive into the community of IDF attendees and watchers. To start with, you can meet hundreds of community members by joining the IDF group on Facebook. Soon you will be able to engage in dialog with one another and with some of our most respected technical experts on this very blog, where you can already view sneak previews of the conference from Pat Gelsinger, Justin Rattner and Rajesh Kumar. You can also begin to follow the IDF account on Twitter, a tool that we and other attendees will use during the conference to provide a play-by-play account of announcements and developments.

The Expanding Frontiers of Mobility

posted by Kevin Haley on July 30, 2008

Expanding the Frontiers of Mobility – we came up with this theme for the Mobility Pavilion at IDF to describe our vision. The mobile PC market and industry are expanding – morphing from building the PC’s we know and love to building many things, from kind-of-like-PC’s to real PC’s to hyper-PC’s. So besides all this cool new stuff, what does an expanding frontier mean and why does it matter to you?

For me frontier evokes a place of opportunity where things are new and fresh, a place where innovation thrives. My picture of this comes from field of ecology where they use the term ecotone to describe what I mean. The Ecotone Journal says it like this: “In the natural world an ecotone is a landscape where two separate ecosystems overlap, a place of danger and opportunity…” One of our ecosystems is all the mobile devices available today. The other ecosystem is the rest of the world with it’s potential new applications and new customers. The border between the two is our mobile frontier.

Innovation Celebration - Maker Faire @ IDF!

posted by Kiesha Cochrane on July 30, 2008

As I count down the days to my very first IDF I can’t help but be excited for the final day festivities. Yes, I am a newbie to the IDF squad and I hear there are tons of events to look forward to during the week like the upload lounge, exhibit floor, keynotes and Ultimate Geek competition, but my excitement for the last day’s “Innovation Celebration” stems from two words: Maker Faire.

Fresh, Dynamically Updated Window to IDF

posted by Ken Kaplan on July 24, 2008

Every year when Intel Developer Forum comes to San Francisco, daring and the desire for calculated risk flows through Intel.

We know our friends from around the world are coming to join us, and we like nothing more than to outdo what worked well last time. That’s the spirit of the innovation that keeps driving for improvement.

One of the things we’re exploring this year is a way to help teams collaborate and share IDF stories across different Websites, blogs and places we go online. Widget, you say? That’s what we’re exploring this week.

Welcome to the Intel Developer Forum blog!

posted by Annie Rodkins on July 17, 2008

After more than ten years working in a variety of roles here at Intel, I can tell you that (in my humble opinion) no event embodies the soul of this company quite as much as the Intel Developer Forum — “IDF” as it is known to veteran participants and attendees.

There are, of course, the technical experts — be it presenters or attendees: engineers, developers and scientists who together hold the future of an industry in their hands, and who are yet refreshingly down-to-earth, unable to downplay the passion that moves them. There is the electrifying sense of innovation present around every corner — during the keynotes, on the exhibit floor, during Technical Insights panels and hands-on labs, at Ultimate Geek competitions, and in the animate chatter that takes place throughout the halls of Moscone Center.
