I gave a speech last week at a gathering of young professionals interested in my blow-hard ideas and opinions, my career, CSR and the future. In addition to going on about a convergence I see developing between humans and their IT-based technology, I also opined on business’ evolution, an idea which came to me as I was talking to an Intel colleague about my job earlier this year. When I told him what I was doing as ComSol’s program manager, he said “Wow man, you’re way up there working in the corporate conscience. It’s like Maslow’s Corporate Hierarchy of Needs….”

It’s autumn and for many people in the States, that means football season has started. I’m actually a fan of the sport as it’s a nice distraction from my normal work life, well that’s until the Patriots spy story broke last week. It appears to me that we tolerate a lot more cheating and potentially unethical behavior in a sports or “games” than we do in corporate America, although college and professional sports are very big business.

I wasn’t a climate footprint role model this week – spending a couple days in Oregon working on organizational issues and then making my way to Chicago for a few hours to speak on a couple subjects at the Carbon Footprint Consumer Products Conference.

It’s not often that a sound business and sustainability/CSR strategy turns into something that 90,000 people can be personally proud of. Today is one of those times. The annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) were published this week for 2007/2008. I think it’s great that Intel is included in the Index - not only for the 9th YEAR IN A ROW, but as the SOLE U.S. COMPANY SECTOR LEADER. I take that placement personally - and I know a lot of other Intel employees do too. In fact they all should.
