Are you ready for it? I’m ready for it!!

So yesterday, I talked about this cool WiMAX demo that Intel is pulling together. Today, I got a glimpse into another WiMAX demo. But before I get in this, let me ask you – are you as excited about WiMAX as I am??
When WiFi first arrived and Intel introduced Centrino technology, it hit a hot button for me (and apparently a bazillion other people also). I’ve wanted to be free from the wires for some time. I got my first Centrino based laptop immediately and ever since then, I have been connecting at coffee shops, airports, hotels, friend’s houses, car repair shop waiting lobbies, and even the dentist’s office (they didn’t offer WiFi, but the Starbucks three doors down did, and my laptop caught that signal from waiting room. )
Then I heard about this thing called WiMAX - described as Wifi on steroids. Oh yeah. I wanted it. I needed it. But I had to wait. Well, 2008 is the year of WiMAX (so they say). Sure, I connect to the web with my Smartphone. And I’ve used my cell phone as a modem for my laptop. But I never get the speeds or reliability that I really want. I think WiMAX will do it for me.
Is it just me, or are you as excited about WiMAX as I am?
Anyway, about that demo.
Intel has blanketed the Las Vegas Convention Center area with a WiMAX wireless broadband network. They’ve got these four SUV vehicles enabled with WiMAX capability and will take passengers on a little joy ride around the area. In the vehicles, while driving around, the passengers will use laptops, tablets and mobile internet devices to connect to the internet at broadband speeds to surf the web, look up information, upload their photos, stream videos – anything they want – all while these vehicles drive around. As I understand it, these vehicles will also be streaming live video of their journey from the SUVs back into the main Intel booth on the show floor.
The show opens tomorrow – we’ll see how it all works then.
